Driver arrested over using cloned licence plate
A Thai driver was arrested for allegedly using a cloned licence plate to avoid being identified for traffic offences.
Suphakorn, 51, reportedly fitted his luxury BMW X1 with a forged licence plate belonging to another vehicle.
Police arrested him on Highway No 344 in Chonburi, southern Thailand, after another driver complained about receiving traffic fines for offences he had not committed.
Officers traced the cloned number to the BMW and spotted the vehicle on the road on August 14 before ordering Suphakorn to stop.
Highway police discovered that his registration number had been copied and used on another vehicle.
Cops seized the white BMW, along with its actual registration plate.
An inspection found that the plate did not match the registration details of the BMW.
Further checks found that the forged plate number belonged to an Isuzu D-Max pick-up truck owned by another individual.
However, the plate attached to the BMW did not match the specifications and standards of the Department of Land Transport, leading them to believe that it was forged.
They also found a forged tax sticker displaying fabricated information that matched the attached plate.
Police Captain Pichet Namuangrak of the Highway Police Division said: ‘We charged him with possessing and using forged official documents.
‘We handed him and the seized evidence over to the inquiry officer at Ban Bung Police Station for further legal action.'
