American tourist 'stabbed by beggar' for not giving him money..
An American tourist was allegedly stabbed by a beggar for refusing to hand over money in the Philippines.
The holidaymaker was standing outside a convenience store with his fiancee on May 23 when the suspect approached and asked for cash.
CCTV footage shows the man, wearing a blue shirt, leaning towards the tourist before allegedly threatening him with a knife after he refused.
The terrified American ran towards a nearby petrol station, but the attacker chased after him and allegedly plunged the blade into his side before bystanders intervened and forced him to flee.
The victim was rushed to hospital, where doctors treated his injury and later confirmed he was in a stable condition.
Recounting the incident, the American's fiancee, Lea, said: 'The man approached asking for 10 pesos. We told him we didn't have any cash and still needed to withdraw.
'He was acting friendly and asked my boyfriend, ‘Sir, do you need protection? Just pay me.' But when he refused, he stabbed him.'
Police Lieutenant Colonel Lester Leada said officers were hunting the suspect using surveillance footage from the convenience store.
He said: 'We are reminding those with foreign national partners to be very careful, as incidents like this can happen anywhere in Bacolod.
'We are currently investigating the suspect's identity using CCTV footage provided by the convenience store. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to hospital for treatment after suffering an injury to his side during the attempted mugging.'
